An awful event happened: Megan Griesel, age 20, died in the early hours of October 21. A group of at least 10 criminals, while attempting to rob the safes at two petrol stations, shot the innocent girl by accident; the thieves escaped the scene.
What happened with Megan Griesel?
According to the security recording, the accident happened near Lydenburg Convenience Engen Garage, near The Heads Shopping Complex. About ten armed individuals jumped from a white Isuzu single-cab bakkie at the petrol station.
The suspects blasted a drop safe before moving on to the Quest Garage, located at the head of the street and about 500 meters from Engen. The authorities could not determine whether they could break into the second safe and steal what was inside.
At gunpoint, the suspects robbed Quest cashiers. They were doing this when they saw Griesel’s car and began firing at it. Sergeant Cave Dilebo, an officer from the Lydenburg police, claimed that the robbers might have thought Griesel’s car belonged to a police department.
The sergeant confirmed the victim got fatal injuries during the shooting. Unfortunately, she couldn’t survive the serious injuries and passed away. The robbers bring money, valuable stuff, and bottles of alcohol. According to authorities, the police are still investigating and searching those suspects.
