Lee Sun Kyun, a renowned South Korean actor who had made a widespread contribution to the film and television industry, has unexpectedly passed away. The sudden death has left the entertainment industry in shock and mourning.
Lee Sun Kyun earned widespread fame for his performance in the famous South Korean film Paju, directed by Park-Chan OK. The actor had also earned fame internationally in the most acclaimed film Parasite, where he served the role of the father of the wealthy Park family and was greatly appreciated by audiences internationally.
Lee Sun Kyun scandal
In October 2023, Lee Sun Kyun was included as one of the Korean stars who was caught in a drug scandal case. It was reported that Lee Sun Kyun was accused of using marijuana and other illegal, abusive drugs at a bar hostess place. The police have been actively investigating the case. A preliminary test had been taken, and one test in which Lee’s hair was taken revealed no traces of the drug.
Lee Sun Kyun’s lawyer asked the police to use another lie detector test as it is not appropriate to rely solely on Mr. A’s statement without any physical evidence. Amid the investigation of the case, Lee Sun Kyun was banned from travelling to any country.
Later, the Incheon metropolitan police agency revealed that Lee Sun Kyun had been arrested and charged with using psychoactive drugs; however, Lee claimed that he was deceived into taking the drugs and had no idea what he was using. Reuter revealed that the conviction of drug abuse in South Korea resulted in six months in jail; however, repeating the offence resulted in 14 years in prison.
The allegation of illegal use of Lee Sun Kyun resulted in his loss of several projects and put his reputation on the stalk. The case was under investigation, but sadly, the tragedy of his death left it incomplete.
Lee Sun Kyun’s death
Actor Lee Sun Kyun passed away on 27 December 2023. According to the reports, he was found unconscious by Seoul Seongbuk police station in a parked car in Seoul’s Waryyong Park. His wife had called the police when she found out that he had left behind the suicide note in the house. The authorities swiftly responded and reached the location where they found Lee dead.
The suicidal cause of his death was confirmed when the police revealed the presence of lit charcoal briquettes inside a car, which clearly supported that he had committed suicide. The investigation is actively underway, and police are actively trying to uncover more details of the case.
