JMU softball player Lauren dies, school confirms.
James Madison University is mourning the loss of the softball player Lauren, the cause of death revealed.

JMU President Jonathan Alger and athletic director Jeff Bourne remember Lauren as she was the freshman catcher for their last series.
“She was a key member of our 2021 Women’s College World Series team as a freshman catcher last year.
A combined statement addressing the JMU president and athletic director was released.
“Our hearts are aching, hearing the news of the loss of one of our student-athletes. Lauren Bernett was a high-achieving member of our softball team and a great ambassador of JMU and our athletics program.”
Moreover, they further express how important Lauren was to their team.
“College athletics is great because of the people we get to interact with every day. We are a tight family. We are grateful that Lauren has been part of our JUM Athletics community and will always consider her a Duke. We will miss her dearly.”
Bernett’s performance was one of the key contributors for JMU last season in the 2021 Women’s College World Series. Moreover, Bernett hit .336 with nine homers and 33 RBI. Her performance successfully droved the team against top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State cowboys. Afterwards, in the semifinal, they lose back-to-back games to the sonners.
Moreover, Bernett was named the Colonial Atheltic Association Player of the Week. The Dukes a three-game set from Drexel on Monday where she hit .778 with 7 RBIs and a home run.
