Daily reports of suicide instances from various regions are becoming more common, just as police announced that a Broward Sheriff’s deputy who was found dead by suicide was being investigated for a possible sexual battery in Fort Lauderdale.

In Pompano Beach, near the jetties around Bay Drive and just south of the Hillsborough Inlet, the deputy’s body was found around 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to a medical examiner’s office investigation, the deputy, 25-year-old Kyle Schlapik, had self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

According to a statement released by Fort Lauderdale Police on Wednesday, the deputy was involved in an investigation into a possible sexual battery that might have occurred on June 17 in the early morning hours.

According to the statement, “FLPD has a duty and responsibility to thoroughly investigate the incident, which includes gathering all relevant facts and evidence and making an effort to speak with all involved parties and potential witnesses. This is true concerning reports of criminal allegations in general.”

“Until the investigation is over and the suspect or suspects have been identified, all parties are presumed innocent throughout.”

The alleged event is still under investigation, according to the police.

According to the department’s statement, the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the family of their deputy, and the victim will all remain in communication with FLPD throughout the inquiry.

“FLPD remains committed to conducting a thorough and complete investigation into this incident,” the statement added.
