The loss of Kuljeet Kaila, one of the best, most devoted, and well-respected CBC Vancouver broadcasters, has shocked and devastated the media community.
Kuljeet Kaila died in Surrey Memorial Hospital on September 10, 2023, after a long battle with aggressive brain cancer. She had been receiving treatment there.
Her death was confirmed through a Facebook post that remarks:
“Saddened to hear of the passing of CTV Morning LIVE’s Kuljeet Kaila
We had a fabulous time mixing drinks in the morning (non alcoholic ones too), and I’m grateful to have spent such a memorable time together!
My condolences to the CTV Morning LIVE team and all of Kuljeet’s fans and loved ones.”

Kaila worked as a reporter and anchor at CBC Vancouver, becoming well-known in Metro Vancouver in the late 1990s.
She started her career after completing programs at Columbia Academy and Langara College. She began as a reporter and anchor at News 1130 (CKWX-AM) 1998.
In 2001, she moved to Shaw Cable in Vancouver and later to CHEK-TV Victoria in 2004. In 2006, Kaila became a traffic reporter for 94.5 Virgin Radio (CFBT-FM), Z95.3 (CKZZ-FM), and CISL 650.
