Jillian Ludwig, a Belmont University Freshman, Is Battling for Life After a Gunshot

Belmont University community and the Nashville community scheduled a prayer vigil on Wednesday night for Jillian Ludwig, a student at Belmont University who was gunshot in the head while walking near her Belmont University campus. The young student is in critical condition, and all of her loved ones and family are standing with her.

How did the incident happen?

According to the Nashville police department, an 18-year-old Jillian Ludwig was walking on a track at Edgehill Community Memorial Gardens Park at around 2:30 p.m. when she got struck by a stray bullet and collapsed due to a head injury.

After a thorough investigation and examination of surveillance cameras, police identified that Shaquille Taylor, a 29-year-old man, was involved in the shooting. Police revealed that. Taylor was on 13th Ct when he opened fire on the car going on 13th Ct towards Deford Bailey Avenue at around 2:24 p.m. Jillian Ludwig was walking in the park on the opposite side of Deford Bailey Avenue. The gunshot struck Jillian Ludwig’s head, and she subsequently fell to the ground.

Ludwig was then found by the locals in the area at around 3:30 p.m., and the incident was informed to the Nashville police department. Ludwig was immediately shifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and on Wednesday, it was reported that she was in extremely critical condition.

The police department thoroughly analyzed the surveillance cameras, and the information regarding the suspect matched with Shaquille Taylor, who was seen in the camera video shooting a car from a public housing complex. Homicide unit and specialized investigation division detectives took Taylor under custody before 10 p.m. on Tuesday when he was going out from an Edgehill Homes apartment on 14th Avenue South.

Tylor was charged with evidence tampering as he had given the gun to another person after shooting’ and with aggravated assault, including the bond set at 280,000$. Nashville District Attorney’s Office revealed that, in May, Taylor was involved in a prosecution of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. But later, he was released after the doctors found that he was incompetent to stand trial.
