We regret having to inform you of the demise of Javier Dodson, 16, who was killed in a single-car collision on the evening of February 11.
Javier was returning home along Canongate Road when his car drifted off the road and came to rest against a tree.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Javier Dodson, 16, was driving his mother’s 2021 Nissan Altima too fast on Cannongate Road in Palmetto at 10:26 p.m. that night when he failed to negotiate a right curve, crossed the center line, and struck a tree head-on.
After being transported to Grady Hospital, he passed away. Dodson was transported to the hospital by Coweta EMS in a severe condition, but he passed away on Thursday.
According to a GSP incident report, Dodson was “disoriented” when the officer arrived at the scene 14 minutes later and could not explain what had transpired verbally.
According to the report, a witness who saw the collision called 911 and reported that she believed Dodson’s car would pass her before it drifted off the road.
Javier played football at Northgate High School and was a very well-liked kid. Those who knew and loved him will be left with a lasting impact by his passing.
Javier is sorely missed and is constantly in everyone’s thoughts as they post tributes and condolences to him on social media.

A campaign was started to assist the family in paying for the burial expenses. Out of a $15,000 target, $7,687 was achieved, thanks to the donations of 128 people.
There is no information regarding funeral arrangements
