Deputy Jason Lewis, 45, a Volusia Sheriff’s Office member since 2010, passed away after a brief illness.
Deputy Lewis served with distinction and courage as a valued member of our SWAT team and beach unit. More importantly, he was a beloved son, brother, and father of two.
His death was announced on Wednesday, 16 Aug 2023, through a Facebook post, leaving behind everyone in shock and pain.
He is believed to die due to a brief illness; further, no details are provided regarding the cause of his death. We sincerely condolences to grieving family members, loved ones, and friends. We also ask the community to take a moment to honor Deputy Lewis’ years of selfless service. His absence from us is a loss for all of Volusia County.
Since his employment in 2010, Jason Lewis has significantly contributed to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office. His commitment, bravery, and service were well known.
He put a lot of effort into his profession as a police officer and never gave up, earning the respect and love of his coworkers and those he assisted.
He demonstrated through his deeds that he cared about upholding the law, protecting himself, his fellow officers, and the citizens he swore to protect.
Jason’s skills extended beyond his job with the SWAT unit. He excelled at working with the beach unit, demonstrating his commitment to his neighborhood and sense of civic duty.
