Mike Nolan, a longtime sportscaster, passed away on Thursday in Sante Fe, New Mexico, at age 85 after a brief illness. In the 1970s, he started working for 9NEWS. He remained in Denver track and field through the 1990s until his retirement in 2004. There was no information given about the funeral services.
Everyone, including his friends and family, is praying for him, paying tribute to him, and posting condolences on social media.
Presenter Tom Green of 9NEWS praised Nolan as “funny, smart, and approachable.” “He was well-known and well-liked by everyone. Many employees at 9NEWS considered him to be a terrific friend and mentor.
In the latter half of the 1970s, Nolan began working for Channel 9. Before retiring in 2004, he continued to report on sports for television into the 1990s while still based in Denver. Nolan attended Michigan State University before joining the U.S. Air Force; he is originally from Buffalo, New York.
Before settling in Colorado, Nolan’s TV career carried him from Buffalo to Chicago, with stops in Miami and Miami. Before computers took over newsrooms, he was an “old school” reporter who typed stories on a manual typewriter.
