Gary Hammond Accident: Obituary, Cause Of Death, Funeral

Iredell County’s I-77 southbound accident on Tuesday afternoon resulted in one fatality, according to NCHP.

Gary Hammond, 50, of Stanley, was declared dead at the scene.

Troopers went to the scene as news of a deadly incident on Interstate 77 near mile marker 32 surfaced at about 1 pm. On I-77, a Chevrolet pickup was heading south when it failed to slow down sufficiently.

Due to this, a tractor-trailer made by International was struck. Following the collision, the truck veered to the right and struck a Volvo tractor-trailer.

The 50-year-old Gary Hammond was recognised as the Chevrolet truck’s operator. Hammond passed away in the accident’s aftermath. Neither the Volvo nor the International tractor-trailer drivers suffered any injuries.

All passengers were upheld, according to troopers, and there are no indications that intoxication had a role in the collision.

People have been paying him tribute on social media. “RIP to Gary Hammond; no words can express the feeling as I just spoke to you this morning; please pray as much as you can for the family and keep them in your thoughts; you will be greatly missed, my friend, and I’ll never forget our talks and trips out of town, just devastating news,” the statement reads.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family with burial arrangements and provide comfort during this terrible time.

No information was given about the funeral services.
