Fred E. White, an American drummer, passed away unexpectedly and suddenly. His passing was reported via a Facebook post, which reads:
“The day is tragic for our family.
With the passing of a wonderful and gifted relative,
Frederick Eugene “Freddie” White, our dear brother.”
The famous drummer’s cause of death has still not been made public. Funeral service details could be announced at a later time.
On social media, everyone who is missing Fred White—fans, friends, and family—has paid tribute to and expressed their sympathies for his passing.
American drummer Fred E. White, the fourth brother in the family to be born, was born on January 13, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois. He was a part of Earth, Wind, and Fire from its beginning. Prior to that, he had performed the drums on Donny Hathaway’s live album.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Fred White, his half-brother Maurice White, his younger brother Welding White, and other members of Earth, Wind, and Fire in 2000. Innovative, exact, and enthusiastic, Fred E. White started playing professionally in his early teens.
A few weeks before graduating from high school, he decided to tour with Donny Hathaway and record Donny Hathaway Live, which Rolling Stone magazine ranked one of the top 50 live albums.
White joined Earth, Wind, and Fire in 1974 with his brothers Fording White and Maurice White. They had previously extended invitations, but White refused, claiming he wasn’t yet ready. White, who works for Motown Records, performs alongside Donny Hathaway, Little Feat, and the T-Box Band.
When White started playing with EWF, Ralph Johnson was the other drummer. The presence of two drummers on stage further contributes to the band’s powerful sound.
He has contributed to eight of EWF’s studio albums and several live shows, bringing jazzy arrangements, funky beats, and soulful energy to the band’s already loud and joyful vitality.
