Evangelina Alvarez Death: Obituary, Cause Of Death, Funeral

According to Michigan State Police, a 37-year-old Portage man is charged with a crime for his alleged involvement as the driver in a fatal collision.

Police identified the only passenger killed in the collision as Kalamazoo resident Evangelina Alvarez, 30. On Saturday, February 25, before 7 a.m., troopers were alerted to the scene of a tragic one-vehicle collision on I-94 in the Marengo Township of Calhoun County.

According to police, the Portage man lost control of his car while driving westbound on I-94, veered off the road, and collided with a tree. The man’s wounds were not severe. According to the police, Alvarez passed away while being taken to a local hospital. Police detained the Portage man.

Eva won the Hispanic Heritage Celebration’s 2022 Community Service Award. She was an immigrant rights activist and proud Mexican immigrant daughter. She is the Public Policy Coordinator for the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center and holds a master’s degree in public administration from Western Michigan University.

Evangelina concentrated on influencing and advocating for local, state, and federal immigration laws while serving in that capacity. Eva fought to make sure that policies were inclusive of immigrants and their families and were a real representation of our nation’s values.
