Tragically, a firefighter and fireman from the Fredericksburg Fire Department died unexpectedly. The death of Captain Donnie Wedding was reported on February 18, 2023, a Saturday.
In response to the passing of a much-loved fireman, Fort Belvoir Fire and Emergency Services issued the following statement: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the brothers and sisters at the Fredericksburg Fire Department and our own as we grieve the death of Donnie Wedding. We send his family and friends our sincere condolences. In the challenging weeks and months ahead, kindly keep his family and everyone grieving his loss in your thoughts and prayers.
Please remember the Falmouth (VA), Hartwood (VA), Stafford (VA), Fredericksburg City (VA), Fairview Beach (VA), Spotsylvania County (VA), and DCFD (class of 2004 # 338/339) Fire Departments in your prayers, along with Donnie Wedding’s family and friends.”
The family will make a announcement regarding the funeral plans and obituary for Donnie’s Wedding.
On February 19, from 10 AM to 6 PM, the Falmouth Volunteer Fire Department held a reception in Donnie’s honour.
Everyone, including friends, family, and coworkers, is mourning Donnie’s passing and sharing tributes and sympathies on social media.
He was a fantastic firefighter, friend, and artist who made a massive difference in many people’s lives. Before assuming a position with the City of Fredericksburg, Brother Wedding held a position with Spotsylvania County Fire & Rescue and was a part of Local 3886.
Donnie was employed by the Fredericksburg Fire Department and volunteered in Stafford County. He was a fantastic friend and a real street-smart firefighter. Donnie was known as DLW among his friends and had extraordinary drumming and artistic abilities. Donnie has a heart of gold and so generous.
