Derek Chauvin, the Ex. Minneapolis police officer convicted of George Floyd’s 2020 murder was stabbed at a federal prison in Tucson, Arizona, on Friday, according to the New York Times.
According to CNN, Derek Chauvin was assaulted at the federal correctional institution in Tucson on Friday, and he is in stable condition.
It has been identified that the inmate at the Tucson prison stabbed the Incarcerated Individual at around 12:30 pm, confirmed by the reports from the Federal Bureau of Prison. The two individuals who were aware of the matter said that no other prison staff or inmates were injured at the scene.
The individual is not authorized to provide details and publicly discuss the attack that occurred in the prison. It is also not permitted to provide any information to the authorities about the condition of the victim, due to which the statement of the agency did not share the identification of Derek Chauvin by name and referred him as the incarcerated Individual. The credible sources confirmed the individual was Derek Chauvin, 47.

Bureau officials informed that before shifting the incarcerated person to the hospital, emergency medical technicians immediately started life-saving measures and then sifted the inmate to the local hospital for proper treatment and evaluation.
There was no information available about the condition of Derek Chauvin, but the people who knew about the matter stated that Derek Chauvin had survived the attack.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office reported to CNN today, early Saturday, that Derek Chauvin was stabbed and is now in stable condition.
Derek Chauvin conviction
Derek Chauvin has been serving a sentence of two consecutive decades in federal prison for the conviction of federal charges and a state murder charge of violating Mr. Floyd’s civil rights.
In May 2020, Derek Chauvin knelt on the neck and back of Mr. Floyd for nine and a half minutes and lay Mr. Floyd handcuffed and facedown that he could not breathe on the south Minneapolis street corner. The brutal killing of Mr. Floyd, who was a 46-year-old security guard and a rapper, was recorded by a teenager, and the incident captured on the video spread like wildfire on the internet at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Derek Chauvin is a white man, while Mr. Floyd was a black man, which resulted in the biggest protest against racism and police violence. In April 2021, he was convicted on state charges of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. He was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison.
The US Supreme Court rejected an appeal from Derek Chauvin on his state conviction earlier this week after he argued in the court, and the court dismissed his appeal without any comment on the appeal.
