Former Disney Distribution Chief Dave Hollis passes away at his Austin, Texas, home on Saturday night.
From 2011 until his resignation in 2018, he served as the organization’s head of global distribution. He was aged 47. Although Hollis had just been hospitalized for heart-related issues, the particular reason for his death is unknown.
There has not yet been any information released about the funeral services. His four children are Hollis’s only survivors. Everyone, including friends and family, expressed their sorrow and memories of Dave and their condolences on social media.
In 2011, Hollis succeeded Chuck Viane as the head of Disney’s theatrical distribution after Viane announced his retirement. During his tenure, Hollis oversaw several of the studio’s biggest box office hits in its history, directing films from Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, and Pixar, as well as live-action adaptations of beloved animation films and brand-new animated productions.
Hollis’ leadership brought significant successes, which made his exit from the corporation in 2018 all the more unexpected. To lead Chic Media, a Texas-based production firm created by Hollis’ then-wife, Rachel Hollis, who was well-liked in the industry and a charming representative for Disney, Hollis left the studio (and California). The couple separated more recently.
Get Out of Your Way and Built Through Courage, two self-help books by Hollis, are among his works. Hollis also enjoyed presenting a podcast called Rise Together, where he held discussions with writers and activists about the idea of trying as hard to comprehend another person’s truth as it is to share one’s own.
Hollis established the Dave Hollis Giving Fund, which strives to aid homeless youths and foster children. He also served on National Angeles, Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers, and Fandango Labs boards. He was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
