Crystal Villega Death: She Loses Battle Against Fungal Meningitis

The best wife and mother from Brownsville, 31-year-old Crystal Villegas, has been battling for her life for the past three months.

She was battling a possibly fatal fungal meningitis infection in the ICU at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen when, on July 30, 2023, she ultimately sighed his last breath and passed away.

Juan Tapia, her husband, posted a heartbreaking message on Facebook to notify of her passing:

“With a heavy heart, I regret to inform you that at exactly 630pm, My Crystal took her last breath.

She fought hard for four months and refused to give in, and even though she lost the battle against this deadly disease, she gained something much more significant. My crystal earned her angel wings.

I truly believe that God has a bigger purpose for you up above, and I know you will watch over our Three little ones forever and ever. I promise to keep your legacy alive, and I thank you for saving my life.

Through all of this, I realized how grand and extraordinary you were, babe; I know you touched so many hearts and lives, which is evident with the amount of love and support you received from the community.

I want to thank everyone who’s shown love and support through all of this; your thoughts and prayers are so appreciated; thank you all for always having Crystal Villegas in your prayers.

Rest in peace, my love.

Go with Jesus now. I’ll never forget you.”

“My heart is heavy right now; rest in Heaven, Crystal Villegas. I prayed for your husband, children, and family during this difficult time. From the words of Crystal, “Ladies, love yourselves and do your research before getting any procedures done”… You fought so hard and caused a movement in the world Crystal, You gained your angel wings, and you are now healed and united with our creator in Heaven.

Life is short, be grateful for what you have, love God Love people. Be kind, and love your neighbor. Be content with what you have and what you look like. REST IN PEACE, BEAUTIFUL.”
