In the late 1950s, Connie played many years in Ontario and British Columbia in senior leagues and eventually pursued his lengthy career as a minor league star, especially with Fort Wayne Komets of the International Hockey League in the early 1960s for three consecutive seasons. Later, he played for the Portland Buckaroos of the Western Hockey League for nine seasons.
From 1972 to 1973, Connie participated in 20 national hockey league games and five playoff games with the St. Louis Blues. He later spanned his remaining career in hockey in minor leagues. At the time of his retirement, he was second in minor league history and was still 80th in the category.
