Brian Nieves Accident: Obituary, Cause Of Death, Funeral

Detectives from the Fourth Squad of the Suffolk County Police are looking into a car accident that killed a man in Hauppauge this morning.

Following a horrific car accident this morning in Hauppauge, a 38-year-old Bay Shore man was killed. Brian Nieves has been named as the victim.

According to sources, Bay Shore, New York resident Brian Nieves died from injuries he acquired in the catastrophic car accident.

At 3:15 a.m., Brian Nieves was operating a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the centre lane of the westbound LIE when Rafael Mercado was operating a 2012 Peterbilt tractor-trailer when the Jeep collided with the back of the trailer.

Nieves, 38, of Bay Shore, who was travelling alone in his car, was ejected from it and was declared dead on the spot. Mercado, a 55-year-old Medford resident travelling alone then, was safe.

For a safety inspection, the Jeep was seized. Officers from the Motor Carrier Section of the Suffolk County Police performed a safety inspection on the tractor-trailer there.

All of the expressway’s westbound lanes close to Exit 56 were shut down due to the collision for several hours. Since then, the lanes have reopened.

According to detectives, anyone with information on this collision is urged to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
