A generational classic and one of the founding “Sesame Street” human stars, Bob McGrath, passed away on Sunday at the age of 90 at his New Jersey home. He was an actor and a music artist.
The McGrath family posted on his Facebook page, “The McGrath family has some tragic news to share,” to confirm McGrath’s passing. Bob McGrath, our father, passed away today. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones.
Everyone is mourning the loss of the legend, recalling his outstanding contributions, and paying him honor online. In a statement, Sesame Workshop paid tribute to the “cherished member of the Sesame Street family for nearly 50 years.”
Neither the family nor the authorities spotlight the cause of death. Regarding the arrangements for the funeral, nothing is known.
On June 13, 1932, in Ottawa, Illinois, Robert Emmet Bob McGrath was born. In 1954, he received his degree from the University of Michigan School of Music and engaged in a variety of extracurricular activities while a student. Additionally, Bob belonged to Phi Gamma Delta and the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club. He has collaborated with numerous well-known people, including Mitch Miller.
McGrath made his “Sesame Street” debut in the 1969 pilot and went on to play Bob Johnson for 47 seasons of the program. He left the show in 2017 but has continued to represent it at events in subsequent years.
According to Sesame Workshop, the actor, a skilled tenor, and musician, performed “many times over” in concert halls from Las Vegas to Saskatchewan to Tokyo. McGrath contributed to the special status of several of “Sesame Street’s” most well-known songs, including “People in Your Neighborhood” and “Sing a Song.”
He married Ann Sperry, with whom he has six children, six grandchildren, and two grandsons. He resided in Teaneck, New Jersey, with his wife. Bob McGrath is thought to have a net worth of between $3 million and $5 million.
