Blakeleigh Weems, Walker High School Teen, in Denham Springs Car Crash on New Year’s Day

A festive early New Year’s Day in Denham Springs turned into a devastating tragedy just before 1:00 a.m. when a Walker High School senior, Blakeleigh Lore’n Weems, was tragically killed in a car crash. Denham Springs police reported on Monday.
How did the incident happen?

The tragic incident occurred between 12:50 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Monday, when police responded to the fatal collision of two vehicles at the intersection of the 12 westbound interstate exit ramp and South Range Avenue. Authorities discovered that the vehicle heading northbound on South Range Avenue collided with the 17-year-old vehicle’s driver’s side.
Later, 17 years old parents Nelson Weems and Chasity johnstone identified the 17 years old as Blakeleigh Lore’n Weems.

According to the reports, a 17-year-old girl was immediately taken to the hospital, but due to serious injuries, she could not make it to life and died at the hospital. However, the person accompanying her in a vehicle got minor injuries, and the driver of the vehicle that hit the car also had minor injuries.
Investigation

The fatal crash is under active investigation by the Denham Springs police. Authorities said that they are thoroughly examining the circumstances of the accident and evaluating if a walker, a high school senior, could not stop at the red light; however, the other vehicle’s driver had a green light. DSPD also suggested that impairment of the vehicle could be the contributing factor which led to the tragic crash. Blood samples of both drivers for toxicological assessments have been taken for analysis.

Blakeleigh was known as the most compassionate girl with an aspiration for a bright future. She was recently accepted with an academic scholarship at LSU and dreamed of pursuing her marketing career and becoming a lawyer. She wanted to work as an intern at Walt Disney Land as she was fond of Disney World and Disney Princess. Weems was a senior student at Walker High School, where she was serving on SGA and a part of the beta and digital media at the school. She was famous for her beloved personality and an entertainer. Her selfless and kind nature touched every person she met in life. Her mother stated that she would be the most loved character, and her absence had left a profound mark on their lives.
