Last night at the team hotel, a Battlehawks training staff member died. Ben Siegfried passed away when he was just in his early 20s. The exact cause of death isn’t made public.
Following the coach’s passing, the Battlehawks issued the following statement:
“The XFL family expresses its sorrow over the loss of Ben Siegfried, a teammate who passed away last evening. The XFL Athletic Training Department’s Ben, a graduate student athletic trainer from Lebanon Valley College, played a crucial role in getting our Battlehawks and Defenders ready for the season. All the athletes and staff who had the chance to work with him will sincerely miss his contagious smile in the locker room and his love for his work. His family and friends are in our hearts and prayers.”
Ben Siegfried is missed and remembered by everyone, including friends and family, who have expressed their condolences and tributes to him on social media.
“The Siegfried family is in our thoughts and prayers. Since we began the season in January, Ben has been a devoted individual and a shining example to everyone. He will be sadly missed because he was a particular member of the Battlehawks family. embraced his brother and mother today.”
Ben, a Lebanon Valley College Ph.D. student in athletic training who worked for the XFL’s athletic training division, was a significant asset to the Battlehawks and Defenders’ season-preparation efforts.
His infectious smile and the zeal with which he pursued his career will be remembered warmly by the athletes and staff members who had the distinction of working in the locker room with him.
While attending Lebanon Valley College, Siegfried participated in the school’s football program as a member of the Dutchmen. His primary areas of expertise were sports medicine and physical therapy.
On Sunday, the Battlehawks will host their inaugural game at the Dome at America’s Center versus the Arlington Renegades.
On March 18, they will play the Defenders in the Dome. Before the 2020 season ended with only five of ten games played, the league and the Battlehawks attracted the backing and interest of numerous businesses and fans.
