Asad Rauf, a former Pakistani member of the ICC Elite Panel and one of the best in cricket, passed away on Wednesday, 14 September 2022. He was 66. Cardiac arrest has been reported as the cause of death. The family has confirmed that his funeral will be held in Lahore later today.

Ramiz, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, expressed his sadness at learning about Asad Rauf’s passing.
In May of 1956, Asad Rauf was born. Rauf played for National Bank and Railways during his extended first-class career as a middle-order hitter, averaging 28.76 from 71 first-class games.
Rauf, recruited to the ICC’s elite panel in 2006, was one of Pakistan’s most well-known umpires in the middle of the 2000s. He presided over his first Test the year before; since 2004, he has served on the ODI panel after his first ODI in 2000.
Rauf presided over 139 ODIs, 28 T20Is, and 64 Tests, 49 of which he refereed on the field and 15 on television during his time as an umpire.
Along with Aleem Dar, he was a well-liked personality on the circuit who contributed to enhancing the standing of Pakistani umpires before the neutral umpire era. However, his professional career abruptly ended in 2013 when Mumbai police listed him as a “wanted to be accused” in their inquiry into the IPL spot-fixing scam, which Rauf had been officiating.
Rauf left India before the conclusion of that IPL season, but the ICC withdrew him from the Champions Trophy that came after. Although the ICC insisted that this was not because his name had come up in the investigations, he was also dismissed from the elite panel later that year.
Due to accusations of corruption and fraud, the Board of Control for Cricket in India subsequently banned Rauf for five years in 2016.
The former umpire maintained his innocence throughout this time and proclaimed his desire to work with the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit.
As a result of his career earnings, Asad Rauf has an estimated net worth of between $1 million and $1.5 million.
