Areanah Preston Death: Obituary, Cause Of Death, Funeral

Early Saturday, a Chicago police officer was shot and killed in Avalon Park.

The officer was shot at around 1:42 a.m. in the 8100 block of South Blackstone Avenue as she was leaving work, according to the Chicago police. Areanah Preston, 24, was her name, according to her family.

Preston was wounded outside when a different officer arrived in response to a warning from the city’s ShotSpotter gunshot detection system, according to the police. According to police radio traffic, nine rounds were found.

According to police radio traffic, the responding officer stated Preston was shot at around 2:15 a.m., more than 30 minutes after the ShotSpotter alarm.

An off-duty police officer was shot, a dispatcher said over the radio.

Preston was eventually put in a police car by the attending officer, who then hurried her to the University of Chicago Medical Centre, where she was later declared dead, according to the police. Police reported that nobody was in custody.

Preston has been a police officer for three years and formerly worked in the Calumet District.

Her mother and two younger twin sisters also survived her. Information on the funeral services may be revealed at a later time.
