This past weekend, news broke that Anthony Ciccone, Madonna’s brother, had passed away at 66. It followed a difficult life that saw Ciccone struggle with alcoholism and homelessness.
On Saturday, musician Joe Henry, who is wed to Melanie Ciccone, the singer’s sister, shared the tragic news on Instagram.
“My brother-in-law, Anthony Gerard Ciccone, departed from this physical plane last night,” Henry stated on Facebook.” He and I first met in Michigan in the spring of our lives when he was 15.”
Anthony was a complicated person, as brother Dave Henry notes. We occasionally disagreed, as true brothers do, but I loved and understood him more deeply than I was often prepared to admit.
One of eight children, the “Queen of Pop” Madonna grew up in Michigan, where Page Six reports that her older brother is thought to have lived when he passed away. Madonna Ciccone, her mother, passed away in 1963 at 33 following a struggle with breast cancer.
The Daily Mail claimed in December 2017 that Anthony had finished a program at a rehabilitation facility and had been reunited with his family at home. Years ago, Anthony had publicly criticized Madonna and the rest of his family, charging that they had abandoned him.

My dad would be relieved that he wouldn’t have to worry about me any longer if I passed away from hypothermia.
He also discussed his tense bond with Madonna. According to reports, Anthony Ciccone stated in 2011, “I never loved her in the first place, she never loved me, and we never loved each other.”
His family members expect to make further announcements regarding his funeral services very shortly.
