It has been reported that Amp Fiddler was diagnosed with an undisclosed medical condition last year, and in 2023, he was seen struggling with his health. Last year in December, Fiddler created a crowdfunding campaign to support his healing journey and get him back on stage. The two fundraising events occurred last week at Detroit venues in Marble Bar and Spot Lite but his declining health has resulted in his death on 17 December 2023.

Amp Fiddler was a renowned American singer, songwriter, producer, and keyboardist. The American musician started his career in the 70s as a member of the soul group Enchantment. He then joined George Clinton’s Parliament and Funkadelic group and showed his decade-long stint working. He developed a singular voice while expanding a lexicon of post-Risco R&B.
His ability to shift work between stages and studios made him achieve that open-minded and funk personality, which made him the reputable and inspiring mentor of a generation of Detroit producers. He had worked with many personalities, from Prince and Jamiroquai to Moody Mann, J Dilla, and Theo Parrish. He taught them the use of the Akai MPC drum machine and introduced them to the tribe known as Quest Creative Vortex.
His unique music made his way to the labels, including sound signature and mahogany music. His final release was in collaboration with Luke Solomon, and the name was Come On Over.
In 1980, when he was living in Los Angeles, he established a music production school camp, which was moved to Detroit when he shifted to Detroit. He encouraged kids from the local area to get into the camp. Waajeed, The likes of Dilla and Andres all got an opportunity for his mentorship.
