Amari Seldon, a University of Maryland Student, Died by Committing Suicide

Amari Seldon, a psychology student at the University of Maryland, lost his life on Tuesday, the 25th of October, 2023, at the SECU Stadium on campus.

On Tuesday night, the University of Maryland Police Department sent out an email to the whole campus in which the announcement of the sudden death of Amari Seldon was made officially.

Vice president for student affairs at the university, Patty Perillo, mentioned the extreme pain that was being experienced by the whole school community. He stated that: “The tragic loss of life of a member of our campus community is deeply painful,”

What happened to the student?

According to the initial investigation, the root cause of the death was said to be an act of attempting suicide. The student was found dead on Tuesday afternoon. Upon investigation, the student was identified as Amari Seldom, who was a psychology student.

On-Site Investigation

In a follow-up email to the students the university’s Resident Life Department confirmed that Amari lived in Denton Hall.

The Maryland Chief Medical Examiner’s Office will decide the official root cause of Amari’s death, according to Lt. Rosanne Hoaas, a UMPD spokesman, who talked to The Diamondback.
He also mentioned that for now, this act that has been attempted does not pose any threat to the university community.

The roads near SECU Stadium’s north side were closed due to the ongoing investigation, the UMPD announced at 2:18 pm on Tuesday. The on-site investigation was finished at 4:23 pm, and the roads opened again.
