Anchorage, Alaska: The community is reeling over the tragic news that has been surfacing on social media of the shooting incident that took the life of 34-year-old man Josiah Goecker, who was the most prominent person in the community.

About the incident

On Monday, October 23, 2023, law enforcement authorities responded to the call and reached the Alpine apartments in Midtown Anchorage on Mockingbird Drive and found a man, who was later identified as Josiah Goecker, with a gunshot wound in the upper body.

According to the reports, the accident occurred in the leasing office of Alpine apartments. Josiah was off duty and visiting the leasing office, where he was gunshot by the tenant who was threatening the woman with a gun in the leasing office. Josie tried to calm the situation but was shot several times in the chest. The tenant fled the scene and shut himself in his apartment. SWAT team and police officials, after reaching the scene, temporarily blocked the surrounding areas of the building and tried to negotiate with the suspect but failed to get the answers as he didn’t surrender himself. Later, at around 4 p.m., a gunshot was heard from his apartment. He was found dead in a self-inflicted wound.

Josiah Goecker was taken to the Providence Alaska Medical Center, but despite several attempts, he died in this tragic accident. The matter is still under active investigation to identify the purpose of the shooting.
