Tim Sale, one of the most mythical cartoonists of Batman, died at the age of 66, as confirmed by DC Comics itself in a statement shared on networks and on its official website.

The causes of his death are unknown, but he was recently admitted to the hospital “with an apparently serious health problem”, as confirmed on his official Twitter account, where they asked for privacy.

” He was an incredible artist, whose portrayal of iconic characters had true human depth, and his innovative page layouts changed the way an entire generation thinks about comic book storytelling,” the publisher praised. “Our condolences to Tim’s family and friends. He will be greatly missed.”

The American cartoonist, born in 1956, started in independent comic book publishers in 1983, after studying at the School of Visual Arts in New York. But fans remember him greatly for his work within DC Comics.

Specifically, he started in the publishing house together with the writer Jeph Loeb with  The Challengers of the Unknown, but characters like Batman or Superman weighed heavily on his career .

Batman: The Long Halloween,  Batman: Dark Victory, and Superman for All Seasons are some of the titles for which readers remember him, who loved his drawing style in the adventures of these characters.

” Tim contributed innovative ideas to every project he worked on,” said Maria Javins, editor-in-chief of DC Comics, in a statement. “His work always amazed with artistic compositions and graphic use of contrast and negative space. I especially loved his Batman villains, whose attributes Tim sometimes highlighted through exaggeration and caricature. We will miss Tim and consider ourselves lucky .” to be partners in his legacy .”

But apart from this publisher, he also worked for Marvel on comics like  Wolverine/Gambit: Victims, Daredevil: Yellow, Hulk: Gray and Captain America: White.

In addition, he is the author of the paintings of Isaac Mendez, a character from Heroes, and acted as a writer and producer for the series.
