The Scottish model’s family announces the death of one of the most iconic supermodels of the 90s.
The British model Stella Tennant has died at the age of 50, according to The Guardian, which confirms the news through a family statement: “It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Stella Tennant on December 22, 2020. Stella was a woman wonderful and an inspiration to all of us. We will miss her very much. Her family asks that their privacy be respected. Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Tennant, an iconic model since the 90s, was a favourite of Karl Lagerfeld, Celine or photographers like Juergen Teller and came from an aristocratic family. Born in Scotland in 1970, she was the granddaughter of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Her parents are the Honorable Tobias William Tennant, son of the second Baron Glenconner, and Lady Emma Cavendish.

The mannequin was discovered in 1993, after graduating from Fine Arts, by the iconic Isabella Blow. Her iconic pixie haircut, her carefree aristocrat aesthetic. her figure and her height distinguished her from the rest of the supermodels of the time, becoming the reverse with androgynous airs with respect to more voluptuous models such as Claudia Schiffer or Karen Mulder. It was Steven Meisel who would photograph her for the British edition of Vogue and a week later she already had a campaign with Versace. Two years later a contract with Chanel would arrive and her supermodel status came true in an era when mannequins had it all.
After spending a working period in New York, Tennant, her husband, the photographer David Lasnet, and their four children retired to live in a castle in Scotland at the beginning of the last decade, as S Moda reported in this report.
