Patrick Molefe Shai ( 20th century – January 22, 2022 ) was a South African actor and director. Patrick was known for his performance in the television series Soul City, Generations, and Zero Tolerance. He was one of the founding members of the Free Film Makers of South Africa. Patrick Shai died on 22 Jan 2022 by suicide.

Patrick Shai began his career as a dancer at Safari Ranch with Mzumba African Drama and Ballet. In 1994, he joined the cast of the drama series Soul City, for which he won the Avanti for Best Actor at the 2000 NTVA Avanti Awards. In 1995, he wrote and acted in the film Hearts & Minds playing the role of “Mathews Kage.” It won the Silver Dolphin Award for Best Screenplay at the Festróia – Tróia International Film Festival.  In 1996, he participated in the BBC miniseries Rhodes.

For his role as “Enoch Molope” in the 2004 television series Zero Tolerance, Patrick Shaiwas nominated for Best Actor in the TV Drama category at the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs). In 2005, he joined the SABC2 mini-series Noah’s Arc and was nominated for the SAFTA Golden Horn for Best Actor in 2010. In 2008, he starred in the comedy Moferefere Lenyalon as “Kgosi Matlakala”. In 2010, she played the role of “Bra Sporo” in the SABC2 drama series Hello Mpinji and as “Tiger Sibiya” for the third season of the SABC1 drama series Zone 14. At the 2014 SAFTA Awards, Skem Saam. In 2017, he joined the cast of the popular SABC2 soap opera 7de Laan, playing “Jacob Moloi”. For his performance, he was nominated again for the SAFTA Golden Horn Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2018.
