Howie Pyro Died: What Was His Cause Of Death?

This morning the death of Howie Pyro was known, an essential character of the New York punk scene (he was one of the last people to see Sid Vicious alive), bassist of The Blessed or the essential D Generation -band the latter who shared with his friend Jesse Malin -, a member of Glenn Danzig’s band for a while and a popular radio host and DJ for the last few years.

Howie Pyro was 61 years old and had recently undergone a liver transplant, although the cause of death appears to be COVID-related pneumonia, according to Rolling Stone. The news has been confirmed on his social networks by Jesse Malin himself, who is currently on tour in Europe, with the following text:

This is the most difficult post I have ever had to write. Howie Pyro, my best friend, and brother has passed away. He fought hard until the end. He changed my life and the lives of so many others in ways I can’t even begin to count. We made our world together. From Whitestone, Queens, to Madison Square Garden and all the crazy, dirty places in between. I learned a lot from him. He made this planet a much better, cooler, stranger, and more beautiful place. For decades he impacted so many types of people and so many different scenes everywhere with his style, his taste, his music, his knowledge, his Art, his fashion, his attitude, his humor, his records, his movies, his bravery, his swagger, her smile, her heart, and her compassion.

Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket, t-shirt, donated, prayed, or sent a message to help him. He really got to see the love in a huge way from all of you and it meant a lot to him. Its importance and impact will never, ever be forgotten. I will always love you, my dear Dr. Howard.

Some of us will really miss him. Rest in peace…
