Art Metrano Died: What Was His Cause Of Death?

The actor has died at his home in Florida at the age of 84, as confirmed by his son.

Actor Art Metrano, known for playing Captain Mauser in the Crazy Police Academy, died this Thursday at the age of 84. The Brooklyn-born actor has died of natural causes at his home in Aventura, Florida, his son confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to his roles in the 1985 and 1986 installments of the comic crime series, Metrano also appeared in the 1982 spinoff of “Happy Days,” “Joanie Loves Chachi,” and guest-starred on “All in the Family,” ” Bewitched “,” Starsky and Hutch “and” Mod Squad “, among other television shows.

Born in Bensonhurst, Metrano began his career studying acting with Stella Adler and John Cassavetes and doing monologues in the Catskills, according to THR. His big break came when a producer of “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” invited him to join the show in 1970, after seeing his simulated magic number “The Amazing Metrano” on a late-night California variety show.

At Carson, Metrano was told to quickly leave the stage when his number was over because the show was getting longer. But the host loved the number and even fell out of his chair laughing at one point, motioning for her to sit on the couch next to him – a comedian’s dream come true.

“Yesterday I lost my best friend, my mentor, my father,” said his son Harry. “He was and will always be the toughest man I know. I have never met someone who has overcome more adversity than him …”.
