Alan White Death
Alan White, the drummer for Yes, dies aged 72 in the US
In addition to the progressive rock band, White played on classic records by John Lennon and George Harrison.
The musician’s cause of death was not revealed by family members.
Alan White, the drummer for the progressive rock band Yes, has died at age 72 in Seattle, United States. The information was revealed this Wednesday (26) on the musician’s social media.
“Over his life and six decades of career, Alan has been many things to many people: a rock star to fans around the world, bandmate to a select few, and a gentleman and friend to all who knew him,” says communicated, without revealing the cause of death.
The musician had worked in Yes since 1972. Before that, the drummer was part of the Plastic Ono Band, a band formed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1969. White would collaborate with Lennon again on the album “Imagine” (1971).
In Yes, White replaced Bill Bruford and marked an era with a more traditional style of playing his instrument – which did not make the group’s songs less grandiose and elaborate, as the genre demands.
In addition to Yes, Alan White worked on another classic album by a former Beatle: “All Things Must Pass” (1970), by George Harrison. Very influential in the 1970s, the musician also played with Joe Cocker.
He leaves his wife Gigi and two children. Recently, Yes announced the tour in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the album “Close To The Edge”, but did not confirm the presence of Alan White due to health problems.
