He also played for the Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, and Houston Texans. In his career, he appeared in two Super Bowls, XXXVII and XXXVIII, both times as a member of the Buccaneers. He won Super Bowl XXXVII with the team.
Johnson was born in Marietta, Georgia. He attended Florida State University, where he played college football for the Seminoles from 1987 to 1991. However, he was inducted into the FSU Hall of Fame in 2007.
