The attacking midfielder Maxi Rolón, 27, who played for Santos in 2016, died this Saturday in a car accident on a road near the municipality of Casilda, in Argentina.
According to Argentine press information, the accident took place around 8 am. The car the player was in crashed into a tree. The player’s brother, Ariel Hernán, 30, was also in the vehicle and died.
Barcelona, the club for which Maxi played in the youth categories, and Santos, issued notes of regret for the athlete’s death.
After starting to play football in smaller clubs in Argentina, Maxi Rolón arrived at Barcelona’s youth ranks in 2009, where he remained until 2016. With no opportunities in the first team, he ended up working with Santos .
The attacking midfielder arrived in March but decided to leave Peixe in July of the same year. At the time, the Argentine complained of few opportunities given by coach Dorival Júnior. He played five games for Santos and did not score goals.
Afterwards, he also visited Lugo (Spain), Arsenal de Sarandí (Argentina), Coquimbo Unido (Chile), Pubilla Casas (Spain), Fuerza Amarilla (Ecuador) and Al-Diwaniya (Iraq). Currently, he defended Atlético de Chabás, in a regional league in Argentina.
