Lionel James Dies After Long-Illness:

Lionel James, 59, died after a long illness. “Little Train” charger Lionel James died on Friday 26, February 2022, in San Diego. He was a record-breaker sparkplug in the team’s backfield in the late 1980’s.  

Auburn University announced his death on Friday. 

James was born in Albany, Ga to his parents. He was called Little Trains,  due to his size 5 foot 6 and 170-pounds and his love and interest in Lionel electric trains. Moreover, having an interest in football he did not play football before his ninth grade, after his ninth-grade he started playing football and was offered one scholarship from a high standard college in Auburn.

In 1885,  leading the team in rushing, receiving the team kickoff and punt go back yardage,  James was named as the Chargers most Valuable Player. Moreover, he set the NFL record for running back with 1,027 receiving return yards.

In the year 2006,  James was installed in a seat in the Alabama Sports Hall, after his performance which led Auburn to its first-ever SEC championship in 26 years. 

Tommie Agee, the Auburn mate, referred to him as, “He always put the team first, he was one of the mean resources why I came to Auburn. He introduced me to the Auburn family, the Auburn team on my first official visit. ”

After he announced his retirement from the NFL, James graduated in 1989 and returned to Auburn. Moreover, he was additionally named the university’s tight ends coach in 1996-97.

Lionel James symbolized Auburn football for a generation or more. Housel confessed, He wasn’t big in stature, but he had a Big Heart.
