Former basketball player Adreian Payne died at the age of 31 after being shot on Monday morning (9) in Orlando, Florida, in the United States. According to the Detroit Free Pass, the former athlete was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead. Police arrested a suspect in the shooting.
According to the Orange County, Florida Sheriff’s Office, police responded to a call at 1:37 am that a man had been shot. Lawrence Dority, 29, was arrested at the scene with a first-degree murder warrant.
Payne, a Dayton, Ohio native, played for the Spartans from 2010 to 2014 and won All-Big Ten second-team honors in both his junior and senior seasons. He played for the Atlanta Hawks, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Orlando Magic, in a total of 107 NBA games. The player was dropped from the Orlando Magic after his name was revealed in an ESPN report in January 2018 about alleged sexual harassment involving him and a man during his freshman year of college—there was no prosecution in the case.
Between 2018 and 2021, he played for teams in Greece, China, France, Turkey, and Lithuania. Since passing February, Payne was out of contract.
Causes of death: Payne was killed in a Florida shooting
Shortly after announcing the news, a statement from the Florida police arrived to give further details of the incident, which partly explains the dynamics of the incident: Payne was hit by a gunshot in the middle of the night ( about 1.30 local time) in Orlando, ceasing to breathe shortly after in a hospital not far from the scene of the accident. Lawrence Dority, a county sheriff in Florida, said law enforcement had already identified the culprit – arrested moments after the incident and arrested on first-degree murder charges
