Professor Of Plant Physiology At The UCO Manuel Pineda Priego Dies

The Espejeño professor, who resigned as president of Rabanales 21 a year ago, has died at the age of 69

The professor of Plant Physiology at the University of Córdoba, Manuel Pineda Priego, died today at the age of 69. Born in Espejo (Córdoba), Professor Pineda has been linked to the UCO for more than forty years as a student, teacher, researcher and in various representation and management positions. He was president of the Parque Científico Tecnológico de Córdoba, Rabanales 21, from 2014 to April of last year and was a full member of the Royal Academy of Córdoba.

Manuel Pineda began his studies in Biology in 1972 at the University College, which was the embryo of the Faculty of Sciences of the recently created University of Córdoba, belonging to the first class of Biology at the UCO. He entered the University as a teacher within a few months of obtaining his degree and received his doctorate in 1982 with the qualification of outstanding cum laude and Extraordinary Doctorate Award. University professor since 1987, he obtained the University chair in the area of ​​Plant Physiology in 2005.

Professor Pineda was director of the Office for the Transfer of Research Results (OTRI) from 1997 to 2006, General Director and Deputy Director of Innovation and Transfer of the University of Córdoba from 2006 to 2011.

In the business field, among other positions in addition to the presidency of Rabanales 21, he was CEO of the Business Corporation of the University of Córdoba from 2014 to 2020, founder in 2006 of Innovaóleo, SL, a technology-based company whose corporate purpose was the research on olive oil and other edible oils; co-founder in 2013 of the EBT recognized by the UCO Innopaisajes, SL; president of the governing council of the Cooperativa Olivarera “San Isidro (1998-2004); Vice-president of the governing councils of Cordoliva (2000-2003) and Oleícola el Tejar (2007-2017) and president of the Torres Gutiérrez and Antonia León-San Isidro foundations.

Author of numerous articles and publications in journals in the areas of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Plant Physiology, with a high impact index, Manuel Pineda is the author of two patents on cDNAwhich encodes enzymes for the synthesis of tocopherols (Vitamin E) and director of a significant number of doctoral theses and research projects. Pineda was also a permanent member of the Royal Academy of Córdoba since 2015, his contributions to this institution have focused on healthy eating and advances in various fields of Biotechnology. In April 2020 he resigned as president of Rabanales 21 for health reasons and for his disagreement with declaring the bankruptcy in full alarm. The University of Córdoba has expressed its deepest regret to its family and friends for the loss of one of its university references.

The burning chapel will be in the funeral home of Las Quemadas. The response will take place this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the same funeral home.
