Juan Diego Died: What Was His Cause Of Death?

The world of interpretation mourns the death of Juan Diego. Family sources have confirmed to the newspaper ‘El País’ the death of the great 79-year-old actor, after several years of fighting a terrible disease. The interpreter, who only a few days ago had been named ‘Favorite Son’ of Bormujos, Seville, his hometown, has died in Madrid.

Juan Diego, born in Bormujos on December 14, 1942, was one of the great national actors and accumulated awards and nominations. He won three Goya awards, five awards for best actor at the Malaga Festival, and won the Silver Shell for Best Actor at the San Sebastián festival for the film ‘Vete de mí’, by Víctor García León. He was also awarded several Silver Frames, the Film Academy Gold Medal, and several Actors Union Awards. The world of interpretation is already mourning his death, which has also been confirmed by the Association of Performing Artists, Management Society (AISGE) on its social networks.

Juan Diego had an extensive career in the world of cinema, television, and theater. He worked with the most consecrated directors on the national scene such as José Luis Cuerda, Bigas Luna, Carlos Saura, and Luis García Berlanga, and especially remembered are his roles in the film The innocent saints’ where he gave life to young gentleman Iván; ‘The stunned king’, ‘Paris-Timbuktu’ or ‘The stunned king’. On the small screen, many remember him for his role in the series ‘Los hombres de Paco’. One of the last times we saw Juan Diego in public was in the funeral chapel of Verónica Forqué on December 15 at the Teatro Español in Madrid.

Juan Diego, father studied Dramatic Art and began his career as an extra on TVE. In the years of Franco’s dictatorship, he showed his strong opposition to the regime and defended democracy. He was a member of the PCE since 1968 and directed the Art and Culture Commission of the Communist Party of Spain. His death leaves the world of Spanish interpretation an orphan. Rest in peace!
