The First African-American mayor – the great Woodrow Stanley, died:
Woodrow Stanley was a true public servant. He was a Democratic politician, the mayor of Flint, Michigan. Moreover, He was a former member of the lower house of the Michigan Legislature, the Michigan House of Representatives, for the following years. He also served as the chairman of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners.
The family of the late Woodrow Stanley confirmed his death in the following words; He died on Wednesday morning at Hurley Medical Center.
“Woodrow Stanley was a true believer in his words; he cared deeply and served his community. He worked as a public servant his whole life. We request you to respect our privacy during this hard time.”
“We lost a great husband, father, and grandfather.”
Woodrow Stanley Cause Of Death:
Woodrow Stanley died at the age of 71. Moreover, no cause of death has been revealed.
County Commissioner Charles Winfrey, D-Flint, said, “I’m shocked. I am grieving the loss of a dear friend.” Winfrey served Stanley during his time as mayor. “He was a great man who persevered….a public servant who was drastically under-appreciated.”
Dan Kildee of Flint said he was deeply saddened to learn about Stanley’s death. Moreover, he added.
“Woodrow was passionate about his work and a lot for public service; he was a great mentor for the youth. Throughout his entire career…you will be missed by Flint and our community.”
Stanley stayed in the city’s highest office in 1991; he served on the Flint City Council from 1983 till his recall in 2002. He was elected as mayor two times before his memory.
His first election happened in 1991, won by 10,000 votes. After that, however, he served as a councilman for eight years.
Eric mays said, “He holds a very special place in my heart; you will be missed badly.” remembering the black community. “For the Black community, he will be remembered as a strong black mayor.”
