Kala Keerthi Suminda Sirisena, Sri Lankan Entertainment Star Died at 75

The death news was initially shared on a Facebook post, stating, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Suminda Sirisena. He departed this world peacefully after a period of illness, surrounded by his loving family.”

About Suminda Sirisena

Sirisena was born on July 4, 1948, in Bossella, Kegalle, Sri Lanka. Bossella is basically in a rural village in Kegalle. Sumida was the eldest one in his entire family. His father was known as Bulathgamuwa Sirisena; he was a small-time businessman. He was also involved in traditional Sri Lankan folk dramas and served his expertise there. Suminda attended his initial education at Pussellawa Maha Vidyalaya. He later received a scholarship to Tholangamuwa Central College in 1963.

Suminda completed his B.A. in Social Sciences from the Open University of Sri Lanka. He didn’t stop there; he also completed an M.A. from the University of Sri. He also served as a technical officer at the Victoria Dam project. He also has some participation in the Sri Lanka Railways as a Special Apprentice.

Mr Suminda Sirisena had a very interesting and charming career. He had been the star of the Srilankan entertainment industry for nearly five decades. He initiated his career in 1966, and he continued serving straight all these years till 2012. He has worked in cinema, theatre, and television all these years. He showcased his versatile performances and made a prominent name in the industry. He has earned numerous awards and rewards for hard work incl, including Kala Keerthi in 2017 and Kala Bhushana state award in 2014.

Apart from working all his life, he was also family-oriented. Suminda Sirisena was married to Leela Sirisena. Both of them had two sons, Prabhath; according to the reports, In May 2012, he started facing some serious health challenges. As he was suffering from this, he ultimately had to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Colombo National Hospital. Since 2012, he struggled with his health condition; he had problems with walking and also received physiotherapy treatments.

Suminda Sirisena made an important impact on Sri Lankan theatre and started influencing many with his work. He was part of very famous stage dramas such as “Maname,” “Sinhabahu,” and “Kada Walalu.” He also contributed to Thilak Gunawardena’s theatres. He opened his drama school, “Siwuranga,” which served as his commitment to grooming and promoting young talent. Although he had serious health conditions, he still worked with two television serials, “Sepalika” and “Boralu Paara.”
