Sara Monger, a Student-Athlete at East Rockingham High School, Died in A Car Accident

Sara Monger, who was a beloved resident of Elkton, Virginia, passed away on October 28, Saturday morning, due to a fatal car crash on Vine Street. She was with two other passengers who were shifted to hospital due to severe injuries.

What happened to Sara Monger?

Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center responded to an emergency call at around 3:25 a.m. in the early morning on Saturday, October 28. The emergency was about the accident that occurred due to collision between a vehicle and a power pole in the 200 block of Vine Street.

Police had found an 18-year-old girl who was pronounced dead at the scene. She was driving a car and identified as Sara Monger, an EMU student and a resident of Elkton, Virginia.
The two passenger’s sustained injuries, and both were also students at EMU. One of the passengers, an 18-year-old man and a resident of Aylett, Virginia, sustained serious injuries, due to which he was shifted to UVA Medical Center through air ambulance. The other passenger was also an 18-year-old woman from Ruckersville, Virginia, and was shifted to Sentara RMH for medical care.

The Harrisonburg Police Department does not disclose the current conditions of both passengers and their identification due to their privacy matters.
The HPD’s Accident Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the circumstances of the tragic accident by thoroughly examining the accident site; however, it has been reported that the accident was due to the high speed of the car that eventually lost control and collided with the pole.

Sara Monger was a student-athlete at the East Rockingham High School and a first-year student at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU). During her four years at East Rockingham High School, she showed her dedication and passion for academics and sports and touched many people’s lives.
She possessed outstanding academic excellence with her active involvement in various sports and hobbies. Sara’s lasting impact differentiated her in the class and beyond the classroom, due to which she was called a role model for the students.

Sara also played a leadership role in Future Farmers of America (FFA) and proved herself on the farm with her expertise and in the hunting expedition that showed her talent in the outdoor fields. She was highly acknowledged by her peers and coaches in the softball field and on the basketball court. She showed her athletic prowess in basketball and also became an inspiration for many fellow players.

Her teachers in the EMU also admired the humor she brought to class discussions and expressed the positive influence she brought with her warmth and smile. EMU released its statement regarding Sara’s sudden demise and urged the community to unite together for the celebration of her life.
