Baltimore: A festive night in Federal Hill where gunfire outside the wayward bar on South Charles Street took away the life of an off-duty sheriff’s deputy at 12:44 a.m. on Friday. The victim, identified as Ryan Demby, was just 23 years old.

According to the Howard County Sheriff’s Office and Baltimore City Police, verbal arguments between two patrons led to the fight within the bar. Security had also forced some people to leave. Ryan Demby was there when this incident took place after the gunfire had shot. He was taken to the hospital but died at this young age due to severe injuries.
About Ryan Demby
Ryan Demby was a fun-loving boy who graduated earlier this year. His father was also a deputy. Ryan was Retired Baltimore County PD detective Sam Demby. He pinned a badge on him. He was sworn in as a Howard County Sheriff’s deputy on March 20, 2023.
Sheriff’s office is deeply saddened by the news of the young deputy’s demise. An active investigation is still being carried out, and further details will be released soon regarding the matter.
Ryan Demby’s mother, Adrian Demby, shared her feelings for his son on Facebook and says
Today is the saddest day of my life. I always used to say I can’t imagine how a mother feels when she loses a child. Today, I lost my baby boy, and I feel like someone pulled my heart out of my body. I wish I could have saved him from this cruel world with people without regard for life!! But I guess God wanted him to be with him, and he spoke louder than me. Ryan, I will always love you, and one day I will be with you again!

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball released a statement:
“I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Deputy Ryan Demby of the Howard County Sheriff’s Office. The loss of this young, vibrant, promising life is absolutely heartbreaking. My prayers are with the Demby family, our entire Howard County Sheriff’s Office team, and everyone he touched. Howard County stands by you as we all mourn the loss of a shining bright light in our community.”
