The founding president of Grupo Formula, Rogerio Azcárraga Madero, passed away this Monday at the age of 94.

The businessman was a leader in Spanish-language radio and also founded Discos Orfeón, a firm that was responsible for promoting the record industry throughout the world.

Azcárraga Madero was born on June 6, 1927 in Mexico City, studied for a degree in Business Administration at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.

In 1958 he founded Discos Orfeón to promote Mexican music, giving space to great and varied Mexican artists.

Lola Beltrán, Luis Aguilar, César Costa, Enrique Guzmán, Los Locos del Ritmo, Los Rebeldes del Rock, Los Hermanos Carrión, among others, recorded their albums in this house.

It was in 1968 when the businessman founded Radio Distrito Federal, which today is known as Grupo Formula, by 1984 it already had five radio stations.

Three years later, Azcárraga Madero’s company became the pioneer of radio news in Mexico.

In 2002, Telefórmula was created, which belongs to Grupo Formula and is one of the most-watched channels in the country.
