Police were ordered to inspect the Pickering Casino Resort near Church Street and Hwy. 401 after hearing shots fired, said Sergeant Joanne Bortoluss. When they reached there shortly around 5 a.m. or 5:15 a.m., they found a security guard with injuries from a gunshot.
Sergeant claims that 34-year-old Michael Ferdinand was sent to a trauma centre in the Toronto region, where he was later declared dead.
Police claim that armed men and women who entered the Casino before the shooting and left right afterwards are still missing.
The crime unit of the police force is collaborating with the Casino to examine security footage and speak with potential witnesses. They are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
According to police, the nearby Casino and hotel are closed while they investigate.
