Paul Tracey Police Officer and a Utility Worker Lost Their Lives after Being Hit by the Driver

It is reported that a driver stole the police cruiser and allegedly crashed the cruiser after killing the Paul Tracey police officer and a utility worker in Waltham, Massachusetts.

How did the incident happen?

According to the authority’s statement on Wednesday night, a police officer and a utility worker were killed by the driver who allegedly went to steal the police cruiser in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The incident occurred around 4 pm on Totten Pond Road when the 56-year-old driver, Peter Simon, a Woodsville, New Hampshire resident, deliberately hit the police cruiser while making the U-turn. Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said in the statement.

Marian Ryan further added that Peter Simon turned right on his vehicle and continued until it reached a quarter of a mile down the road and allegedly hit the 58-year-old police officer Paul Tracey and a 36-year-old utility worker who was the national grid worker from Cambridge. The name of the utility worker has not been disclosed at this time; however, unfortunately, both the police officer and the utility worker lost their lives after sustaining fatal injuries.

Police Officer Paul Tracey was serving his duty at that time. He was working on a police detail at the national grid worksite. According to the authorities, two other workers have also sustained injuries at the scene. One worker working in a hole during the hit was swiftly shifted to the hospital.

Marian Ryan added that the driver was continuing to hit another two vehicles and then left his vehicle and tried to flee from the scene. The driver then went to the police officer who was responding to the situation and stole a police cruiser at knifepoint. The driver tried to crash the cruiser at Winter Street and again fled from the scene to avoid arrest.

Charge on driver

The driver was charged with two manslaughter and armed robbery. However, the authorities said that he may get additional charges. The driver, Simon, will appear in the Waltham district court on Thursday morning. It has been reported that it has yet to be confirmed if the driver has a lawyer to represent him in legal affairs.
