The death of the British singer, rapper, musician, and DJ was announced on social media by the British band this Saturday, December 24. Maxi Jazz died “peacefully in her sleep”, the message says. The causes of death were not disclosed.

The news was given on the group’s Facebook, this Saturday. “We are devastated to announce that Maxi Jazz died last night. He was a man who changed our lives in so many ways. He gave our music its own meaning and message. He was also a delightful human being with time for everyone and a wisdom that was both profound and accessible. It was an honor and of course, a real pleasure to work with him.”

Colleagues in the collective also remember how he was a “brilliant lyricist, a DJ, Buddhist, a magnificent stage presence, lover of cars, endless talker, a beautiful person, moral compass and genius”.

Maxi Jazz was part of Faithless since its foundation, in 1995. A year later, the first album, Reverence, was released, and the most recent one came out in 2020, All Blessed. The British electronic music band’s portfolio includes songs such as “Insomnia”, “God is A Dj” or “Muhammed Ali”. Faithless have played at some of the biggest music festivals, including Glastonbury.

According to Sky News, the artist’s cause of death was not disclosed.

Maxi Jazz (stage name of Maxwell Fraser) was born in Brixton, England, in 1957, and in addition to participating in Faithless, he also embarked on a solo career. He fronted other bands like Maxi Jazz and The E-Type Boys.

He toured with UB40, who on Twitter recalled how he was a “charming guy” who “disappeared too soon”. “But finally, Maxi, you can rest”, they say.
