“Lucy Fernandez was a joy to all who knew her. She was a young woman of faith, ”says the Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in an email, confirming that Lucy died this Monday morning, due to injuries sustained in the boat accident that occurred in Boca Chita.
A teenager identified as Lucy Fernández died this Monday from the injuries she suffered a day earlier when the boat she was in with other companions collided in Boca Chita . Other teenagers are in critical condition.
“Lucy was a joy to all who knew her. She was a young woman of faith ”, refers the Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in an email, confirming the death of Fernández, this Monday morning.
The friends and relatives of the 17-year-old girl joined together to pray the rosary for the rest of her soul and for the health of two other of her companions, ” Katy Puig and Coco Aguilar, who also suffered serious injuries,” they said in a release.
The first reports indicate that, apparently, the boat collided with a channel marking post, on the island located in Miami-Dade County. This is near the Florida Keys, in Biscayne National Park.
Not all of the teens on the boat were injured.
There were 14 people in the damaged boat when they collided at 6:45 p.m. this Sunday.
Miami-Dade police arrived before firefighters and rescued some of the passengers from the water.
Then, reported Captain Juan Garrandes, of the county firefighters, the rescuers continued to help other passengers. Some were immediately transferred to different hospitals.
“Others, we send them to their parents,” confirmed Garrandes.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is in charge of the investigation and they have not released further details of what happened.
