Jonah Anschell Suicide: Obituary, Cause Of Death, Funeral

Los Angeles, California’s Harvard Westlake School sophomore Jonah Anschell died away.

Evident suicide was the cause of death for Jonah Anschell. A possible suicide involving a student from the Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, California, is under investigation.

The tragic event reportedly took place on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. No official disclosure of the student’s identify has been made as of yet.

This is the second suicide episode involving the Harvard-Westlake School this semester, according to a social media user who represented themselves as an alumnus of the school.

“This week, a student from my old institution, Harvard Westlake, committed suicide for the second time this term. Teen suicide is a severe problem. For the impacted families and the neighbourhood, this is a tragedy. As of the time of this writing, the Harvard-Westlake School has not yet issued a formal statement addressing the ongoing death investigation involving one of their kids. 700 N. Faring Rd is where the Harvard-Westlake School is in Los Angeles, California.

A message on Facebook reads:

Check-in on your kids incessantly because many are not OK. Jonah Anschell, senior at Harvard Westlake (a friend of my son and classmate), with everything to look forward to in life and a bright future, a loving and supportive family, outwardly perfectly fine, took his own life a day ago.

A shaken to our core community, we are left to ask why? What is happening that our kids are turning to such tragic finality as a refuge? But depression is real, social media pressure is accurate, and our kids are in pressure cookers all around them. If this could happen to Jonah, it could happen to anybody. Be hypervigilant and present and interested, and proactive. I don’t have any answers, but something is different with the social fabric our kids are growing up in, and we have to be hawks; we do.

Academic rigour has nothing to do with this, and Harvard Westlake has nothing to do with this. This is a much bigger problem, and it affects everyone everywhere. Do not be fooled that these are isolated incidents impacted by a specific school’s high academic expectations because that’s a fallacy. Look at this boy’s face. He could be anybody’s kid.

My whole heart is with the Anschell family. I don’t know how you go on, but I pray God gives them strength to overcome their unspeakable loss. May you rest in peace, Jonah. Not one more kid.
