Biography
James Beck Gordon was born on July 14, 1945, and raised in Sherman Oaks. He picked up the drums in high school and, according to a 1994 Washington Post story, “with the use of a phony ID,” was hired at the age of 17 to support the Everly Brothers during a tour of England.
After some session work, he was hired by the soul-rock band Delaney & Bonnie, whose guitarist at the time was Clapton. Gordon and Clapton then formed Derek and the Dominos, who debuted backing George Harrison on his 1970 triple album “All Things Must Pass.”
